I love riding in moist weather. The trail conditions here in the valley are awesome right now. We have been in monsoon season for the past few weeks and its' incredible. Yesterday Len Zanni and I were intent on putting in some good riding mileage at altitude before getting caught in the daily rain storms.
Len is in preparation for the Leadville 100, so longer high altitude rides are now becoming more and more common. I am not racing Leadville, thank god, but I will never pass up rides like these. They are so much fun. It has also been nice to return to training and getting back into the swing of things after my little break. I also realized I don't have much more time before I am sitting in the class room so I should really make the most of my summer. And while on that subject, I can't believe it's August already. It seems just like yesterday I was heading to Fruita for our team camp getting the season ready. Time really is flying by, speaking of which I need to get going to work before I'm late. Hope everyone else's July ended well!
After a quick coffee stop in Aspen, we rolled up Smuggler Mtn and ripped up some amazing trails that I have never been on before. After climbing for almost an hour we made it to the Fabi Benedict Hut. It was like a whole different area riding up there. Plus, with all the moisture and humidity I could've sworn we were in the pacific northwest. Once we got to the top, taking a few photos and eating some chews, I remembered that I had left my debit card in my jersey pockets. I was searching for it and couldn't find it any where. Trying not to get too upset really I realized that if it was lost, after all the terrain we had covered, it would be gone. Some how on the downhill Len saw my card on the ground on another loop on the trails. I couldn't, and still can't believe he saw it. I can't believe how lucky I am.
